New Year is the time at which a new calendar year begins and the calendar's year count is incremented. In many cultures, the event is celebrated in some manner. In many countries, such as the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, the UK, and the United States, 1 January is a national holiday. Civilizations around the world have been celebrating the start of each new year for at least four millennia. Today, most New Year’s festivities begin on December 31 (New Year’s Eve), the last day of the Gregorian calendar, and continue into the early hours of January 1 (New Year’s Day). Common traditions include attending parties, eating special New Year’s foods, making resolutions for the new year and watching fireworks displays. In many countries, New Year’s celebrations begin on the evening of December 31—New Year’s Eve—and continue into the early hours of January 1. Revelers often enjoy meals and snacks thought to bestow good luck for the coming year. In Spain and several other Spanish-speaking countries, people bolt down a dozen grapes-symbolizing their hopes for the months ahead-right before midnight. In many parts of the world, traditional New Year’s dishes feature legumes, which are thought to resemble coins and herald future financial success; examples include lentils in Italy and black-eyed peas in the southern United States. Because pigs represent progress and prosperity in some cultures, pork appears on the New Year’s Eve table in Cuba, Austria, Hungary, Portugal and other countries. Ring-shaped cakes and pastries, a sign that the year has come full circle, round out the feast in the Netherlands, Mexico, Greece and elsewhere. In Sweden and Norway, meanwhile, rice pudding with an almond hidden inside is served on New Year’s Eve; it is said that whoever finds the nut can expect 12 months of good fortune.

13 Of The Most Attractive Cars Coming In 2015
After a strong year for car and truck sales, automakers have a flood of new models in the works to woo buyers in 2015.
Here are some of the vehicles expected to debut over the next 12 months:
■ Acura NSX: Designed, developed and built in the USA, this all-wheel drive hybrid super car is the heart of Acura's plan to become a leading luxury brand. The two-seat NSX will be one of the most eagerly watched introductions at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. While it will sell in small numbers, Honda engineers are throwing the kitchen sink at the NSX — including separate electric motors for each of the front wheels and a mid-engine gasoline-electric hybrid package — to reestablish Acura as a go-to brand for performance, technology and excitement.
■ Cadillac SRX: The SRX crossover was an immediate hit when Cadillac introduced it, but the handsome five-seater has grown old. Cadillac needs a new model with the latest features and improved fuel economy to cash in on the boom in luxury SUVs.
"Luxury crossovers are incredibly popular," IHS Automotive senior analyst Stephanie Brinley said. "The SRX replacement is a chance for Cadillac to cash in on that and continue their run of excellent products." The SRX replacement will have a new name as Caddy switches to names that combine letters and numerals, like BMW and Audi use.
■ Chevrolet Cruze: By far the best small car Chevrolet has built, the current Cruze's features and fuel economy gave the brand its first legitimate competitor for the best from Japan, Korea and Germany.
GM puts such high stock on the Cruze that CEO Mary Barra, who was then in charge of product development, delayed the new car a year to make sure it didn't repeat the mistakes of the botched redesign of the Malibu midsize sedan. The result: a roomier interior and other improvements in the sedan that goes on sale next fall.
■ Honda HR-V: Honda's entry in the hot subcompact SUV market, the HR-V could win the brand new buyers, thanks to slick looks and one of the larger engines in the segment. "It's going to get a lot of attention," Brinley said. "We'll be talking about small crossovers all year."
Fuel economy, price and features will be key for the HR-V, whose competitors will include the Chevrolet Trax and Fiat 500X. The HR-V looks to have one of the roomier interiors in the pack.
■ Hyundai Tucson: Hyundai's smaller SUV will grow slightly larger in 2015 to make room for — you guessed it — a future subcompact crossover. That will push it closer in size to the Santa Fe, potentially creating a traffic jam on Hyundai dealership floors.
"These vehicles are smash hits in the rest of the world," Cars.com Detroit bureau chief Aaron Bragman said. Hyundai thinks a roomier interior and new looks could make the Tucson a hit with U.S. buyers.
■ Jaguar XE: Jaguar's first compact sedan launches the British brand into direct competition with aggressive sport sedans like the BMW 3-series and Cadillac ATS. It's a tough market, but success is vital to Jag's global growth plan. An expected all-wheel drive model could help.
"Jaguar's never had a viable candidate in this segment, but this one ticks all the right boxes" with contemporary looks and features, Bragman said.
The XE is one of the first tests of the Indian Tata Group's ability to develop a luxury car without former Jag owner Ford's help.
■ Jeep Renegade: Developed primarily for sale in Europe, China and other regions, the subcompact Renegade's appeal in the U.S. is unknown, but Jeep could use an appealing entry-level model. A lot will depend on whether the Renegade delivers on Fiat Chrysler's promise of serious off-road capability.
"It gives young buyers the classic Jeep looks and all the benefits of a Wrangler with a better price, higher fuel economy and more safety equipment," Bragman said. "You're going to see them all over college campuses."
■ Lexus RX: Like the similar-sized Cadillac SRX, the RX is one of the older five-seat midsize luxury SUVs on the market. It's also the best-seller in its segment, and the vehicle other automakers gear themselves up to compete with.
"The RX is the most popular luxury crossover in the U.S.," Bragman said. "It's the vehicle that made Lexus a volume brand."
Expect advanced features and a luxurious interior to keep the competition on its toes.
■ Lincoln MKX: Ford's luxury brand is basking in the warm response to the smaller MKC SUV it launched in 2014. The five-seat MKX needs to make a big impression to maintain that momentum and compete with the replacements for the SRX and RX.
"The MKX's success is very important to Lincoln," Brinley said.
Look for Lincoln to build on its strength making high-end interiors with the new MKX. The new Revel audio system will also debut on the MKX, which should be on sale this spring.
■ Mazda MX-5: Mazda might still exist without the affordable little roadster also known as the Miata, but its "Zoom-zoom" claims to be a brand for enthusiasts would ring hollow. The curvy new model boasts a 50/50 weight distribution for handling and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.
"The MX-5 is Mazda's icon, the car that sets the stage for the rest of the brand and defines Mazda as a company," Bragman said. "It impacts the whole company, every model in the lineup."
■ Nissan Titan: Nissan was the first Japanese automaker to build a full-size pickup, but the Titan has never met sales targets. At one point, Nissan nearly quit Titan development all together to use a truck developed by Chrysler's Ram division. When that deal fell apart, Nissan doubled down on the Titan, developing the 2016 Titan that will debut at January's North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The new Titan promises to be more capable, with a wider choice of models and a powerful and efficient 5.0-liter V8 diesel from Indiana-based Cummins Engine.
■ Toyota Tacoma: The midsize Tacoma pickup is one of Toyota's core models, with as avid and loyal a following as the Camry or Corolla. The 2016 model debuting at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit faces unexpectedly strong competition from the new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize pickups.
"Toyota's likely to remain the sales leader, but it's possible they were caught a little off guard by the Colorado," Brinley said. The strong likelihood that the Nissan Frontier midsize pickup expected later in the year will offer a V6 Cummins diesel adds to the 2016 Tacoma's challenges.
■ Volvo XC90: The XC90 was one of the most popular European SUVs when it debuted, but it's been on the market too long, with too few updates. Volvo product development slowed to a crawl when Ford sold the Swedish brand to a Chinese company during the Great Recession.
The company's getting back on its feet, and the XC90 is key to winning back safety-conscious family buyers who are Volvo's core audience.
"The interior is striking," Bragman said. "They used some very creative materials and design themes. It's a stunning place to sit."

Christmas
Christmas or Christmas Day is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, observed most commonly on December 25 as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the world. A feast central to the Christian liturgical year, it is prepared for by the season of Advent or Nativity Fast and is prolonged by the Octave of Christmas and the season of Christmastide. Christmas Day is a public holiday in many of the world's nations, is celebrated culturally by a large number of non-Christian people, and is an integral part of the Christmas and holiday season. The celebratory customs associated in various countries with Christmas have a mix of pre-Christian, Christian, and secular themes and origins. Popular modern customs of the holiday include gift giving, completing an Advent calendar or Advent wreath, Christmas music and caroling, an exchange of Christmas cards, church services, a special meal, and the display of various Christmas decorations, including Christmas trees, Christmas lights, nativity scenes, garlands, wreaths, mistletoe, and holly. In addition, several closely related and often interchangeable figures, known as Santa Claus, Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas, and Christkind, are associated with bringing gifts to children during the Christmas season and have their own body of traditions and lore. Since gift-giving and many other aspects of the Christmas festival involve heightened economic activity, the holiday has become a significant event and a key sales period for retailers and businesses. The economic impact of Christmas is a factor that has grown steadily over the past few centuries in many regions of the world. The practice of putting up special decorations at Christmas has a long history. In the 15th century, it was recorded that in London it was the custom at Christmas for every house and all the parish churches to be "decked with holm, ivy, bays, and whatsoever the season of the year afforded to be green". The heart-shaped leaves of ivy were said to symbolize the coming to earth of Jesus, while holly was seen as protection against pagans and witches, its thorns and red berries held to represent the Crown of Thorns worn by Jesus at the crucifixion and the blood he shed.

The Polaris Slingshot
The Slingshot has been long rumored for Polaris, but never confirmed. New information released in a recent document outlining organizational changes for the company makes mention of a 2014 release for the Slingshot product line. At first glance, the Slingshot looks like the love child of a KTM X-Bow and a Morgan 3-Wheeler. It rides on three wheels like the latter, while it sports an open-top, side-by-side design like the former. Even its styling cues lead us to the KTM
, although we wouldn’t go as far as to say Polaris looked at the X-Bow while designing its vehicle. It’s the X-shaped front fascia that makes us think of the KTM, but the Slingshot definitely has a design all its own.
The nose is sharper, the hood is slightly longer, and the bumper is nothing more than a pair of thin blades paired with a large splitter. The headlamps are pushed toward the edges of the front end, while a pair of additional light units are fitted right on the center of the nose, above the intake slot. There are no doors on the sides — a typical feat for such a vehicle — while the rear end is plain and simple, with only the third wheel in sight. Sure, the Slingshot is a tad too basic for a car, but Polaris is aiming at a completely different market, with customers looking for an extreme vehicle that’s light and fast. No room for fancy stuff like doors, fenders or convenience features. Speaking of non-existing fenders, the Slingshot’s body panels are made from rustproof, lightweight and impact-resistant polymer.
The base version weighs in at 1,666 pounds, with a few pounds added when the SL model is selected. The vehicle’s interior is equally simple, but sporty. Essentially wrapped in a motorsport-like roll-cage, the cockpit consists of a bare-aluminum floor, a large center console that splits the area in two and a simple dashboard. Despite its spartan design, some features hint that the Slingshot is a machine built in the 21st century. These include a 4.3-inch LCD screen that incorporates a back up camera, Bluetooth connectivity and an audio system that comes with six speakers. Adjustable, waterproof seating and tilt steering are standard, while two storage bins are mounted behind the seats. However, the bins fit no more than a helmet or a standard backpack. That’s enough for a day at the track or a trip up and down a mountain road, but you shouldn’t plan your vacation in a Polaris.
Safety-wise, the Slingshot comes with three-point seat belts, which, truth be told, is a bit worrying. All we can hope is that Polaris will introduce five-point harnesses once the vehicle is launched.

The Ford GT
The Ford GT is an American mid-engine two-seater sports car. Ford Motor Company produced the Ford GT for the 2005 to 2006 model years. The designers drew inspiration from Ford's GT40 racing cars of the 1960s. The Ford GT began as a concept car designed in anticipation of the automaker's centennial year and as part of its drive to showcase and revive its "heritage" names such as Mustang and Thunderbird. At the 1995 Detroit Auto Show, the Ford GT90 concept was shown. At the 2002 auto show, Ford unveiled a new GT40 Concept car. The Ford GT features many new and unique technologies, including superplastic-formed frame, aluminum body panels, roll-bonded floor panels, a friction stir welded center tunnel, a "ship-in-a-bottle" gas tank, a capless fuel filler system, one-piece door panels, and an aluminum engine cover with a one-piece carbon-fiber inner panel. Brakes are four-piston aluminum Brembo calipers with cross-drilled and vented rotors at all four corners. When the rear canopy is opened, the rear suspension components and engine are visible. The mid-mounted 5.4 L Modular V8 engine is all-aluminum with a Lysholm twin screw-type supercharger. It features a forged rotating assembly housed in an aluminum block designed specifically for the GT program. A dry sump oiling system is employed, allowing the engine to sit low in the car's frame. The Ford GT has been campaigned in various racing venues.

The Lexus LFA
The Lexus LFA is a two-seat supercar from Lexus. It is the second model in the F marque line of performance vehicles from Lexus, following the IS F. Three concept versions have been shown, each debuting at the North American International Auto Show with the LF-A designation as part of the LF Series concept line. The production Lexus LFA features a new V10 engine and a carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) body. CFRP materials account for 65 percent of the LFA's body composition by mass. The LFA went into production in late 2010, with a base price of US$375,000. A circuit-tuned variant debuted in 2012 with a base price of US$445,000,making it one of the most expensive Japanese road cars ever built. Production ended in December 2012 with 500 vehicles completed, the final version being a Nürburgring Package model. Car and Driver concluded in its review of the LFA and its performance that the carbon-fiber supercar rated as a "bargain" compared to the more expensive Enzo Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. The Lexus LFA is powered by a 72-degree bank angle 4.8-liter V10 engine equipped with dual VVT-i carrying the 1LR-GUE designation with a maximum output of 412 kW (560 PS) delivered at 8,700 rpm. Its maximum torque output of 480 N·m (354 lb·ft) arrives at 6,800 rpm, 90 percent of which is available from 3,700 rpm. The engine redlines at 9,000 rpm, but with a fuel cutoff set at 9,500 rpm, and is constructed using forged aluminum pistons, forged titanium connecting rods, and solid titanium valves. The gearbox is a six-speed automated sequential gearbox (electrohydraulic transmission) operated with paddle-shifters. The Lexus LFA's frame is made from an in-house designed and manufactured carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) center monocoque with aluminum front and rear subframes. The production Lexus LFA has an overall length of 4,506 mm (177.4 in), while its wheelbase measures 2,606 mm (102.6 in), with a height of 1,219 mm (48 in) and width of 1,895 mm (74.6 in).

7 Things You Need to Know About the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata
1. You sit lower than before, and the interior feels roomier.
Our first impression from being behind the wheel is that the stance of the car and your position in the cockpit are excellent. You sit lower in this car than in previous MX-5 Miatas, and the "impossibly low" hood gives the car a more aggressive sports-car feeling. Although the interior is still compact, it seems wider and roomier and should accommodate two reasonably sized adults in relative comfort.
2. Shifter goodness: intact.
While we spent only a minute or two sitting in the right-hand seat—the prototype is a Japanese-spec car—with the engine off, we did get to try out the MX-5 Miata’s best feature, its snickety-snick shifter. We’re happy to say that it felt direct and smooth, with short throws like those of the original NA Miata. We hope that the next time we row through the gears the engine will be fired up and we’ll be heading out on the road.
3. This is where random details go, don’t ya know?
We mined additional nuggets of info from pawing the car and asking the same questions over and over again in an effort to wear down Mazda’s resolve. First, a low engine-mounting position and active-hood technology will enable the car to meet European pedestrian crash standards without resorting to upright, blunt-nose styling. Next, other than a typical under body panel beneath the engine, there are no aerodynamic aids on the undercarriage. Also, the NC’s dual exhaust is gone, replaced by an ostensibly lighter single tailpipe with dual outlets.
4. The ND will ride exclusively on 16- and 17-inch wheels with four lugnuts.
Tires fitted to the prototype car that was onstage at the reveal were 195/50R-16 Yokohama Advan Sports, while a second design model was shod with 205/45R-17 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A rubber. The design team knew there would be no larger wheel-and-tire package offered when they began styling the car, so even initial sketches were based around these more sensibly sized wheels rather than the huge 20-plus-inchers most designers like to start with.
5. Hardtop? We think so.
Mazda isn’t talking about a hardtop. However, there is plenty of space beneath the manual soft top when it’s folded, leading us to believe that the popular—and likely profitable—power retractable hardtop will again be offered in the ND. How such a roof will look when closed against the standard black windshield frame is unknown—perhaps all hardtops will be black to match? There are also two small trim panels behind the convertible-top aperture that look similar to those found on the NA and NB models; this is where the anchors for those cars’ removable hardtops were located, so perhaps an accessory helmet will also be introduced.
6. More interior details? Why, yes, have some.
This Japanese-spec car was equipped with lane-departure warning, which we imagine will be offered here on higher trim levels, as well as engine stop-start technology, which is less likely to come to America. The steering wheel tilts but doesn’t telescope. The car also had a DVD drive mounted between and behind the seats, beneath a storage bin that serves as a de facto glove box, as there isn’t one in the dash. In addition to two USB ports on the center stack, there are also SD and MicroSD slots.
7. Here’s when you can get one.
Our latest information says that the 2016 Mazda MX-5 will be available for preorder in February 2015, concurrent with Mazda showing a U.S.-spec car at the Chicago Auto Show. If that timing holds, deliveries are likely to begin about a year from now.

Tips For Driving In The Rain
Safety starts before you drive, and your goal should be to see and be seen. Replace windshield wiper inserts that leave streaks or don’t clear the glass in a single swipe. Make sure all headlights, taillights, brake lights and turn signals are properly functioning so other drivers will see you during downpours. Turn on your headlights whenever you drive.
Proper tire tread depth and inflation are imperative to maintaining good traction on wet roadways. Check tread depth with a quarter inserted upside down into the tire groove. If you can see above Washington’s head, start shopping for new tires. Check each tire’s pressure, including the spare, at least once a month… and be sure to check the pressure when the tires are cold.
Avoid Cruise Control
Most modern cars feature cruise control. This feature works great in dry conditions, but when used in wet conditions, the chance of losing control of the vehicle can increase. To prevent loss of traction, the driver may need to reduce the car’s speed by lifting off the accelerator, which cannot be accomplished when cruise control is engaged.
When driving in wet-weather conditions, it is important to concentrate fully on every aspect of driving. Avoiding cruise control will allow the driver more options to choose from when responding to a potential loss-of-traction situation, thus maximizing your safety.
Slow Down and Leave Room
Slowing down during wet weather driving can be critical to reducing a car’s chance of hydroplaning, when the tires rise up on a film of water. With as little as 1/12 inch of water on the road, tires have to displace a gallon of water per second to keep the rubber meeting the road. Drivers should reduce their speed to correspond to the amount of water on the roadway. At speeds as low as 35 mph, new tires can still lose some contact with the roadway.
To reduce chances of hydroplaning, drivers should slow down, avoid hard braking or turning sharply and drive in the tracks of the vehicle ahead of you. Also, it’s important for motorists to allow ample stopping distance between cars by increasing the following distance of the vehicle in front of them and beginning to slow down to stop for intersections, turns and other traffic early.
Responding to a Skid
Even careful drivers can experience skids. If a driver feels their car begin to skid, it’s important to not panic and follow these basic steps:
Continue to look and steer in the direction in which the driver wants the car to go.
Avoid slamming on the brakes as this will further upset the vehicle’s balance and make it harder to control.
If you feel the car begin to skid, continue to look and steer in the direction you want the car to go. Don’t panic, and avoid slamming on the brakes to maintain control.
Overall you want to be extra cautious in wet weather. Slow down, avoid hard braking or turning sharply and allow ample stopping distance between you and the cars in front of you. Also, do these things one-at-a-time. Brake, then turn, then accelerate.
Brake earlier and with less force than you would normally. Not only does this increase the stopping distance between you and the car in front of you, it also lets the driver behind you know that you're slowing down. Also, be more meticulous about using turn signals, so that other drivers know your intentions, and take turns and curves with less speed than you would in dry conditions.
Most of America's roads are crowned in the middle, which means that the water will run off to the sides. If possible, stay toward the middle of the road to avoid deep standing puddles.

How To Get The Most Out Of Your Vehicle
With vehicles staying on the road longer than ever, the harsh conditions of the daily drive can take their toll over time. Americans spend more than 100 hours a year commuting to and from work according to the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey. As the amount of time a vehicle stays on the road increases, so does the amount of maintenance required to keep it running.
There are ways to increase your car's longevity. Three of the most important areas to maintain are your engine, your tires and the exterior of your vehicle.
Motor oil is the lifeblood of an engine as it lubricates vital engine parts. With vehicles being built to last longer, the demands placed on motor oil have increased. It is imperative to utilize a durable motor oil that can stand up to the constant stress of everyday driving.
“While regularly changing engine oil is perhaps the most essential maintenance task drivers can perform,” says Mark Ferner, Quaker State technical specialist and ASE-certified master technician. “Checking wheel alignment, tire air pressure and having regular tune-ups can also contribute to helping keep your can on the road longer.”
A very important, and often neglected, maintenance area on your vehicle is your tires. When temperatures rise, the air inside the tire expands. This can mean you are driving on overinflated tires -- ultimately resulting in premature tread wear. Tire tread is crucial during emergency situations; a quarter inch of tread depth could affect your stopping distance by 180 feet. Improper or neglected maintenance of tires and wheels can cause extensive damage and lead to pricey repairs.
While some tips may help keep a vehicle running smoothly, it is also important to protect the exterior of the vehicle. During the winter months, salt, sand and road grime can severely damage the finish of a vehicle. Another concern is more than one-third of car owners use non-automotive products when washing their cars, which can cause considerable damage and lead to costly repairs. Washing and polishing a car with quality cleaners and waxes goes a long way toward protecting the vehicle’s exterior.

Car Safety Tips For Children
1. Safety experts recommend that children ride rearward-facing in the vehicle until they are two years old or until they reach either the height or weight limit of their rear facing child safety seat.
2. Infant carriers are only used rearward-facing in the vehicle. Convertible child seats can be used either rearward-facing or forward-facing in the vehicle. Convertible child seats often have a higher weight limit in the rearward-facing direction than infant carriers do, so they can be used rearward-facing by children who have outgrown their infant carrier but are still less than at least two years old. Children should remain rearward-facing until they reach the highest weight or height allowed by their convertible child seat.
3. Never place a rear-facing infant seat in front of a passenger air bag.
4. Children who are two years old or who have outgrown their rear-facing convertible child seat can ride forward-facing in the vehicle. Forward-facing child seats and convertible child seats used in the forward-facing direction are for children who are over two years old or who have outgrown the rear-facing weight or height limit of their rear-facing convertible child seat. Children should remain in a forward-facing child seat with a harness for as long as possible, up to the highest weight or height allowed by the child seat.
5. All children whose weight or height is above the forward-facing limit for the child seat should use a belt-positioning booster seat until the vehicle’s seat belts fit properly. If the child cannot sit with knees bent over the vehicle's seat cushion while the child's back is against the seatback, they should use a belt-positioning booster seat.
6. After outgrowing a booster seat, children under age 13 should always use a seat belt and ride in the back seat. Remember, kids of all ages are safest when properly restrained in the back seat.
7. Old/used child safety seats should not be used unless you are certain they have never been in a crash and you have all the parts (including instructions). Seats that are 6 years old or older should be discarded and never used. Click here to check if your child safety seat has been recalled.
8. Always read both the vehicle owner's manual and the instructions that come with the child safety seat.
9. It is important to remember that the "best" child safety seat is the one that correctly fits the child, the vehicle, and is used correctly every time.
10. Get your child's safety seat checked!
What should parents expect when they get their child's safety seat inspected?
Certified technicians will conduct the child safety seat inspection. The certified technician will:- Check the child safety seat to see that it has been properly installed;
- Remove and inspect the child safety seat for damage;
- Diagnose problems;
- Ensure the child safety seat is not a recalled model;
- Get information about children riders from the vehicle owner (size and weight of child, etc.);
- Ensure the child safety seat is appropriate for the size and age of the child;

Chevrolet Corvette C7
The Chevrolet Corvette C7 is a sports car produced by the Chevrolet division of General Motors. The seventh generation Corvette was introduced for the 2014 model year as the first to bear the Corvette Stingray name since the 1976 third generation model. The first C7 Corvette was delivered in the 3rd quarter of 2013. The C7 was designed not only to provide a bold styling statement, but also to incorporate an interior makeover to put to rest past complaints about the quality of interior fit and finish. While overall the C7 attempts to provide an evolutionary redesign to an iconic theme, the 5th generation Chevrolet Camaro's squared rear end provided inspiration, to C7 designers, incorporating aggressive angular elements that disappointed many Corvette enthusiasts. "The rear contains what will surely be the C7's most controversial styling elements. It is all creases and vents back there, with aggressive trapezoidal taillights similar to those found on the current Camaro and quadruple-barreled tailpipes lined up in a neat row in the center of the rear valance", wrote Jason Kavanagh for Edmunds. Other designers found the C7's large front grille to be a rather unattractive reversion away from the Corvette's prior four generations of grille-less designs that pulled cooling air from beneath nose. Functional aerodynamic aids are tacked on or cut into every body panel of the C7, often juxtapositioned against sharp creases. This is a radical departure from the prior generations when the Corvette's clean muscular styling revealed no tack-on spoiler, few body panel creases, and only semi-functional gills for front brake cooling. In addition, past Corvette models minimized the size of headlamps or even hide them altogether. The C7 reverses that clean minimalist styling language with over sized, intricately styled headlamps with LED accents.

Ferrari FXX K
Ferrari has officially unveiled the FXX K ahead of its debut during the Finali Mondiali event in Abu Dhabi. It is said to be launched next year. Formerly known as the LaFerrari XX, the car is based on the LaFerrari, the company’s first hybrid machine, and will be launched next year. The K in its moniker is a reference to the KERS kinetic energy recovery system it adopts. The FXX K will never be used in competition and has been developed to be “completely uncompromising, incorporating technological innovations”. It will be offered to an exclusive group of clients with whom the company will roll out a test program over the coming two years. Rumor has it the FXX K unleashes a maximum output of 1050 PS (772 kW) thanks to an 860 PS (633 kW) V12 engine and a 190 PS (140 kW) electric motor. The maximum torque is more than 900 Nm (664 lb-ft). The 6.2-liter V12 of the machine features new camshafts and a modified valve train with mechanical rather than hydraulic tappets. The intake manifolds have been redesigned and given a special type of polishing treatment. The exhaust system has been also modified as its silencers have been eliminated. The HY-KERS (electric hybrid) system has been optimised for pure performance with the driver able to swap between four settings: Qualify, for maximum performance within a limited number of laps; Long Run to optimise performance consistency; Manual Boost for instant maximum torque delivery; and Fast Charge, for a fast recharge of the car’s battery. At the rear, the FXX K gains a higher tail section with a mobile spoiler, a vertical fin and a small wing each side of the tail. The latter act as guide vanes in the low drag configuration and boost the spoiler’s efficiency in the high downforce one. The result is a 50 percent improvement in downforce in the low drag configuration and a 30 percent improvement in the more aggressive downforce configuration – the impressive value of 540 kg (1,190 lbs) is reached at 200 km/h (124 mph).

Mercedes-Benz SL63
At the moment Mercedes has plenty to be celebrating, having just won the Formula One World Championship in spectacular style – taking the constructors' title by a huge margin and the top two slots in the drivers' standings as well. It almost goes without saying that the German outfit would celebrate with a special edition, and that's just what we're looking at here. Presented at a special celebratory Stars & Cars event in Stuttgart in front of 50,000 jubilant fans, the Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG World Championship 2014 Collector's Edition is based on Benz's twin-turbo V8-powered roadster but with some choice upgrades. Two versions will be offered: one in black with gold accents (displayed with the Silverstone circuit layout), the other in white with silver accents (and the Hockenheim map). One was designed by Lewis Hamilton, the other by Nico Rosberg. There will be only 19 examples each dedicated to a different grand prix circuit in the championship which Mercedes positively dominated – winning all but three, scoring eleven one-two finishes and landing on the podium at each and every one. Confirmed by Mercedes , the SL63 AMG will pack 47 more horsepower for the 2015 model year, bringing the total count to 577. Maximum torque will be rated at 644 lb-ft, which is an increase of 54. The engine upgrade will bring the SL in line with the latest S63 AMG sedan, which debuted with the more powerful engine. It’s unclear at this point if the SL63 will continue to be offered with a Performance package; an example that finished second in a four-car comparo was thus equipped, and had 557 horsepower and 664 lb-ft.
