Labor Day

Labor Day in the United States is a holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September. It is a celebration of the American labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of their country. In 1882, Matthew Maguire, a machinist, first proposed the holiday while serving as secretary of the CLU (Central Labor Union) of New York. Others argue that it was first proposed by Peter J. McGuire of the American Federation of Labor in May 1882, after witnessing the annual labour festival held in TorontoCanada. Oregon was the first state to make it a holiday on February 21, 1887. By the time it became a federal holiday in 1894, thirty states officially celebrated Labor Day. Some Labor Day activities include : BBQ's , going to the beach, going to the park, there are festivals and parades. Labor Day is also celebrated with fireworks and who doesn't love fireworks. ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

http://www.stgautogroup.com/

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge also known as the Ice Bucket Challenge  is an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on someone's head to promote awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and encourage donations to research. The Ice Bucket Challenge went viral  throughout social media during July-August 2014. The challenge dares nominated participants to be filmed having a bucket of ice water poured on their heads and challenging others to do the same. A common stipulation is that nominated people have 24 hours to comply or forfeit by way of a charitable financial donation. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. What's notable about the latest round of donation statistics is that, rather than slowing as the weeks go on, the ice bucket challenge seems to be only accelerating in its impact. Donations in the last week alone have brought in over $65 million. That means that after contributing $22.6 in the first three full weeks, the amount has nearly tripled in the last seven days.  Have you participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge if so tag us in you Ice Bucket Challenge videos hashtag #STG we'd love to see them.

Lotus Cars

Lotus cars are manufactured by the British specializing in sports cars and racing cars, famous for the Esprit, Elan, Europa and Elise sports cars and for the highly successful Team Lotus in Formula 1. They are based at the former site of RAF Hethel, a World War II airfield in NorfolkThe company designs and builds race and production automobiles of light weight and fine handling characteristics. The company was formed as Lotus Engineering Ltd. by engineers Colin Chapman and Colin Dare, both graduates of University College, London, in 1952. The first factory was in old stables behind the Railway Hotel in Hornsey, North London.  The Lotus Group of Companies was formed in 1959. The company moved to a purpose built factory at Cheshunt in 1959 and since 1966 the company has occupied a modern factory and road test facility at Hethel, near WymondhamBy 1980, Group Lotus was in serious financial trouble. Production had dropped from 1,200 units per year to a mere 383. Reason being that the world was in the middle of an economic recession, sales in the key United States market had virtually collapsed. In early 1982, Chapman came to an agreement with Toyota over an exchange on intellectual property and applied expertise. Chapman died of a heart attack in 1982 at the age of 54. At the time of his death, both Chapman and Lotus were linked with the DeLorean Motor Company scandal over the use of UK Government subsidies for the production of the DeLorean DMC-12, for which Lotus had designed the chassis.

Rinspeed sQuba (The Underwater Car)

The sQuba, developed by Swiss company Rinspeed, is the world's first car that can be driven both on land and under water. The Squba was inspired by the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me and carried out  by Rinspeed founder and CEO Frank M. Rinderknecht. The chassis from the Lotus Elise is used as the base for this vehicle. The sQuba is a zero-emission, all electric vehicle which uses three electric motors, one for land travel, two for water. It drives on land powered by its electric rear-wheel drive powertrain, utilizing rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. Upon entering water, it floats on the
surface until the operator floods the interior to submerge it. It can be submerged to a depth of 10 metres (33 ft), powered by twin electric-powered propellers supplemented by two Seabob water jets. The car's top land speed is 120 km/h (75 mph). On the surface of water, the top speed is 6 km/h (3.2 kn; 3.7 mph) and underwater it is 3 km/h (1.6 kn; 1.9 mph). The vehicle can transport a driver and passenger in its open cockpit. The open cockpit design is intended to allow the occupants to escape easily in case of emergency. When underwater, the occupants breathe air carried in the vehicle through scuba-style diving regulatorsThe vehicle's interior is water and salt resistant so that it can be driven in the ocean. The sQuba was presented to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show on March 16, 2008. The existing, functioning prototype cost more than US$1.5 million to build. When the sQuba enters production, they are expected to cost less than a Rolls-Royce.

Shark Week

Shark Week is an annual week long programming block on Discovery Channel which features shark-based programming, real and fictional. It originally premiered on July 17, 1988. Held annually, normally in July or August, Shark Week was originally developed to raise awareness and respect for sharks. Since then it has evolved into more entertainment-oriented programming. It is the longest-running cable television programming event in history. Shark week is heavily promoted on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter it is now broad casted in over 72 countries. Gizmodo says

Discovery Channel employees were "drinking" when they came up with Shark Week; however, a former Shark Week executive producer claims they were only "lightly" inebriated. The creator of Shark Week also helped launch Steve Irwin's career. The author of "Jaws" was Shark Weeks first host ever. Shark Week made history in 2001 when it showed footage of Great Whites breaching. Before that footage, sharks jumping completely out of the water was reportedly thought to be a rumorIn 2002, biologist Erich Ritter was bitten in the leg while shooting footage for a Shark Week program. Though he almost bled to death, the scientist held no ill will towards the shark. For 27 years, Shark Week has inspired, amazed and left us in disbelief.

Ferrari S.p.A

http://www.stgautogroup.com/
Ferrari S.p.A. is an Italian luxury sports car manufacturer based in Maranello. Founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1929, as Scuderia Ferrari, the company sponsored drivers and manufactured race cars before moving into production of street-legal vehicles as Ferrari S.p.A. in 1947.  In 1969 Fiat expanded its stake to 85% in 2008 and currently owns 90% of Ferrari. An immediate result was an increase in available investment funds, and work started at once on a factory extension intended to transfer production from Fiat's Turin plant of the Ferrari engined Fiat Dino.  The company is well known for its continued participation in racing, especially in Formula One, where it has been very successful. when you think Ferrari you think of a symbol of speed, luxury and wealth. Enzo Ferrari was not initially interested in the idea of producing road cars when he formed Scuderia Ferrari. The first Ferrari road car was the 1947 125 S, powered by a 1.5 L V12 engine; Enzo Ferrari reluctantly built and sold his automobiles to fund Scuderia FerrariIn 1988, Enzo Ferrari oversaw the launch of the Ferrari F40, the last new Ferrari to be launched before his death later that year, and arguably one of the most famous supercars ever made. From 2002 to 2004, Ferrari produced the Enzo, their fastest model at the time, which was introduced and named in honor of the company's founder, Enzo Ferrari. On 15 September 2012, 964 Ferrari cars (worth over $162 million) attended the Ferrari Driving Days event at Silverstone Circuit and paraded round the Silverstone Circuit setting a world record. Scuderia Ferrari has participated in several classes of motorsport, though it is currently only officially involved in Formula One. It is the only team to have competed in the Formula One World Championship continuously since its inception in 1950.

Porche 911

The Porsche 911 is the forerunner of the current line up for Porsche. It is a two-door, high performance sports car made by Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany. Since its introduction in 1963, it has undergone continuous development, though the basic concept has remained little changed. The engine was air-cooled until the introduction of the Type 996 in 1998.  It has an individual design, rear-engined and with independent rear suspension, an evolution of the swing axle on the Porsche 356. Throughout its lifetime, the 911 has been modified by private teams and by the factory itself for racingrallying and other forms of automotive competition. In the 1999 international poll for the award of Car of the Century, the 911 came fifth. It is one of the oldest sports coupe nameplates still in production, and 820,000 had been sold by the car's 50th anniversary in 2013. 911S models also gained a discreet spoiler under the front bumper to improve high-speed stability. With the cars weighing only 1050 kg (2315 lb), these are often regarded as the best classic mainstream 911s.
http://www.stgautogroup.com/
For racing at this time, the 911 ST was produced in limited numbers (the production run for the ST only lasted from 1970 to 1971). The cars were available with engines of either 2466 cc or 2494 cc, producing 270 PS (199 kW; 266 hp) at 8000 rpm. Weight was down to 960 kg (2166 lb). The cars had success at the Daytona 6 Hours, the
Sebring 12 Hours, the 1000 km Nürburgring and the Targa FlorioThe Porsche 911 GT1 is a car that was developed in 1996 for the GT1 Le Mans racing class. In order to qualify for GT racing, 25 homologation road-going models were built as a requirement. These models developed around 700 hp (522 kW; 710 PS) and did 0–60 mph in 3.3 seconds. Its top speed was 235 mph (378 km/h). Both the road and race cars carried the same twin turbocharged engine the 962 had, and the race car was a match for theMcLaren F1 GTRs during which time it raced. A re-developed version of the 911 GT1 race car was built, and this model won the 1998 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Some Of The Most Signifcant Vehicles Of 2015

Each year car makers come out with a new and better models. This year there is a bigger collection of new cars. Some are vehicles never seen before--vehicles that could make or break some car brands--while others are wholesale reinventions of existing nameplates, with new styling or technology, or both. Out of those brand-new vehicles, 17 of them are the most important new cars of 2015. The Acura TLX is set to replace both the TL and TSX in Acura’s sedan range. The Alfa Romeo 4C may not be a volume player, but it's a big signal that Fiat Chrysler has big ambitions for the return of Alfa Romeo to America. It is a two-seater, built from a carbon-fiber chassis with a mid-engine layout. The Audi A3 is a critical new family of small cars for the Audi brand. The BMW i8 is a new kind of high-performance, high-priced coupe from the Bavarian manufacturer of the “ultimate driving machine”. It's fast and handles well, but it also has a carbon fiber body and an extended-range electric drivetrain. The Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon GM says it will be the best in its segment for power output, trailer-tow capacity, and payload capacity when they go on sale in the fall of 2014. The new Ford F-150 is a very important new truck this time it's wearing aluminum body panels and is fitted with a range of downsized, turbocharged engines, as Ford looks to leap ahead in the fuel-economy derby. The first all-new Mustang in decades, the 2015 brings with it fresh new styling, an advanced chassis, a plusher interior and a trio of engines including a new four-cylinder turbo. The Mustang also has its first independent suspension across the board, ever--all the better to take on the refreshed Challenger Hellcat and the Chevy Camaro. The 2015 Hyundai Genesis revamped infotainment gear, more refined finishes, and a full suite of active-safety features. The Jeep Renegade is an all-new compact utility vehicle notoriety for ruggedness and iconic styling, the Renegade will take on compact vehicles like the Kia Soul, with the added spiff of true off-road capability. The Lincoln MKC is the first MKC comes only with turbocharged engines, and has its own sheet metal and interior, including a push button transmission.
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class isn't just departure from what the C-Class has been, it feels like a clear break with the past--and that's a very good thing. The Porche Macan is the slightly smaller sibling to Porsche's amazingly successful Cayenne . The Subaru Legacy and Outback fuel economy ranges up to 30 mpg combined, and Subaru's new infotainment system and Eye Sight driver-assistance systems are the main tech highlights. The Volkswagen Golf sets out to change all that with new powertrains, a lighter body, and a range of new models--everything from a new Golf SportWagen to an all-electric e-Golf.

The MINI was intended as an affordable vehicle in response to the 1956 Suez oil crisis. The MINI is one of those special cars that gets to define the vehicle class it belongs to. What makes it even more individual is that it was awarded the “European Car of the Century”. Let’s have a closer look on how the MINI became the car it is today.
