Pony Cars

An America class of Automobile launched an inspired by the Ford mustang, the original "Pony Car." The term meaning : affordable, compact, highly stylish car with a sporty performance oriented image. The pony car dates back as early as the 1960s'.


In the 1960s leading up to the 1970s the Ford Mustang rivaled by the Chevy Camaro enjoyed a tremendous amount of popularity. The design of these iconic types shared similar looks. These models came stocked with at least a six- cylinder or V8 high performance engine. Performance demands would come to require larger and heavier engines which would lead to them fading away. Although there would be some successful models that would remain popular in the drag racing world.


With the reintroduction in 2005 of the Ford Mustang brought back widespread popularity. this reintroduction also brought back the Dodge Challenger and Chevy camaro which unlike previous pony cars were based off full -sized car architecture. NASCAR brought pony cars into its second tier nationwide series at the Subway Jalepeno 250 at Daytona International Speedway.The new cars were seen by NASCAR to re-establish the brand identity with fans and cars on the track.Fords iconic thorougbred has remained a uniquely American car that continues to offer power an panache. Today pony cars are more popular than ever.
